Of Curses and Kisses: Interview
*This interview was not done with me but was provided from the author with the questions already done."
1. How did you get the idea for Of Curses and Kisses?
It came to me one night while my family and I were staying in a hotel in Colorado. This was about four years ago now, and I was still working on When Dimple Met Rishi. But I sat bolt upright in my bed in the middle of the night and scrabbled to write down something in Jaya’s (the female main character’s) voice. I had no idea at the time who was talking or what the story was about, but what I wrote down became chapter one in the book. After I got some sleep, I spent more time thinking about it, and realized this was a boarding school-set story about modern-day royals. The “Beauty and the Beast contemporary retelling” part came still later! Of Curses and Kisses was very much an evolving idea in progress until I sold it to my publisher as a trilogy.
2. Why did you want to write this story?
I’ve always been a huge, huge fan of boarding school-set novels. At the time the idea came to me, I was completely enamored of Gossip Girl and fairy tale retellings, too, and thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a series that encapsulated all of these feelings and ideas but was a more diverse
representation of the population than we’ve had in the past?” And then I went, “Waiiiit a minute…I’m an author!” Also, I got to go to Aspen to do book research, which is always a plus in my book!
3. What was your favorite scene in the story?
There were a few scenes that I absolutely ADORED writing! Let’s see… the first meeting in the library, the hot tub scene, the middle-of-the-night snowball fight, any scene with Caterina and Rahul or Isha in it! So many. :)
4. What’s your favorite fairy tale?
I love the classic Disney ones—Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Frog Prince, and Sleeping Beauty are a few I really cherish!
5. Will there be more books in the universe?
Definitely! I sold the series as a trilogy, with two companion novels to follow Of Curses and Kisses. The next books will follow different main characters, but you’ll definitely see cameos of the people you’ve come to know and love!

Of Curses and Kisses: Review
Rating: 3.5 ⭐
Review:
This book is about an Indian princess, Jaya, going to a boarding school with her young sister because of a mistake that could ruin their family and future. Jaya meets her family's rival enemy, Grey, and falls in love with him when she wasn't supposed to. This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
I really enjoyed this book and loved the story plotline. Everything went well and smoothly. It was also fast pace which I loved. I didn't like her writing in this book vs When Dimple Met Rishi because it changed in my opinion. I think it's because she explained the background information more in the other book then she did in this even though it's a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It wasn't also a fresh read because you know what happens next or at the end. I know it's a Beauty and the Beast retelling but I was hoping for it to be a little different. The characters were the best part though.
Can I say that I immediately fell in love with Grey? OMG even though I didn't like the authors writing as much she did write Grey pretty well. She made him a perfect prince charming/beast that you can imagine! Jaya was my least favorite character and it has nothing to do with the writing. It was because Jaya was judgemental and strick against her sister. I felt bad for Isha sometimes because she wanted to be free and not live a very princessy life. Jaya did develop at the end and learned that she needs to let go of her parents planning her future so she can think for herself. Grey also developed a lot by being quiet and keeping to himself person to a more open person at the end. I really loved the supporting characters because they were unique and were really kind people who supported Jaya and Grey. So more about Jaya and Grey is that they had a slow burn relationship meaning that it developed and wasn't love at first sight relationship.
The cover for this book is gorgeous and whoever did it did a splendid job.
