Review:
This was a wonderful Own Voice novel. As an Indian reviewer, I was glad to receive this book and review it. This is about Sheetal who is a half star and half-mortal who lives on Earth with her dad because her mom returned to the stars many years ago. Sheetal accidentally hurts her dad and needs to go to the stars to find her mom to help him and in order to help her father, she must win her family's competition. As a reader who loves the stars, this was amazing. I loved the world-building for this book and the story plot. The author's writing was wonderful and the story flowed with great pacing. I loved the setting where most of the book took place in the sky where there are many courts with Hindu culture.
I enjoyed the main character Sheetal because it was easy to relate to but at some points, she would annoy me. At points, she would be jealous of her best friend or keep thinking of her ex. It's understandable but could get annoying at some parts. Other than that, I felt connect to her. The side characters were enjoyable but I could have lost interest in the boyfriend but I loved reading about Sheetal's best friend who is such a fun character.
Overall this was a very good story with unique world-building. My only problems were losing interest in the boyfriend, getting annoyed with Sheetal at some points. Also, I did wish a little that the competition was more intense. Other than these problems I enjoyed this book. Also, the cover that was done by Charlie Bowater was just beautiful! I recommend this to those who want a new world-building story with Hindu culture and who love fantasy that involves the stars.
